DID I? is a film that explores Dissociative Identity Disorder. This disorder is resoundingly misunderstood by the public, and I aim to shed some light on what this mental illness experience may be like. As all experiences with D.I.D. are personally tailored to the victim's trauma, this mental illness is difficult to understand and research. Often times, those with a mental illness (especially one with "multiple personalities") is labeled as the villain. If there is something strange or different in the mind, it must be evil or harmful to others. I want to help reverse this stigma by further investigating where this trauma originates and what its effects can feel like for someone's reality that has been altered by such.
Mental illness effects many of us today, whether this is personally or through a loved one. I want to explore the inner workings and constructed realities of these individuals. I want to create a world where, for an hour and a half, the audience is subject to the confusion, claustrophobia, hallucinations, metaphors, and altered reality of these individuals. There is more out there, whether it is harmful or helpful, I want to explore it. I want to produce a film that has the powerful impact of transporting our audience to the ultimate empathetic state.
